SimpleAir recently announced that it has settled its patent infringement litigation against Apple and entered into a confidential license agreement by which Apple has taken a license into its patents. Federal court records in Texas show that both Apple and SimpleAir filed a joint motion this past week stating that both companies entered a confidential settlement and license agreement, asking for an order dismissing with prejudice all claims and counterclaims asserted between the two parties. The court granted the motion.
The patents in question were related to the system and method for transmission of data and contact alerts for unconnected users. Apple did not make any further comments on the ordeal. SimpleAir filed a similar joint motion with Research in Motion which was also granted by the court in the previous month.
For those of you who didn?t already know, SimpleAir describes itself as an inventor-owned technology company, which many see as a patent troll company. SimpleAir reached the principal terms of the settlement with Apple at the courthouse shortly before the case was set to go on trial.
